Featured Speakers

Vicky Mieseler, VP of Clinical Services for Mental Health in Joplin, Missouri. She played a key role in the recovery of Joplin after the tornado took out 7,000 homes and 300 businesses. Vicky provides real life examples of how to be better prepared for disaster response. She will talk first-hand about their plan, show the magnitude of the tornado on their city and lessons learned. Vicky zeroes in on what are the pieces of a multi-level response hospitals need to be prepared to enact and what programs were most successful and why. Until you are in a disaster, you have no idea how to prepare but you can learn a lot from others' experiences as well as from the 911 reports.

Kimberly Harris, CEO for Puget Sound Energy discusses the necessity of public-private partnerships and how developing the right partnership can create dynamic and lasting impacts. Kimberly will discuss PSE’s successful Take Winter by Storm campaign and the new partnership on the horizon with the American Red Cross.

Ed Troyer, Pierce County Sherriff’s Detective and Public Information Officer. Detective Troyer will speak on local current events and how they impact our community.  He will focus on using social media to relay and obtain information.

Building and Marketing the Public Service Brand
This highly interactive seminar deals with practical public relations strategies as a means of enlisting public and private community stakeholders as full partners in the fight to provide safe, secure and mutually productive communities. This seminar explores such topics as internal and external cultural barriers and how to address them, understanding and working effectively with the community and business power structures, examining the concept of “customer relations”, “brand” placement/development, and elements of persuasion through practical marketing strategies. The program is enhanced through the use of concrete “real world” examples and case studies. While much of this seminar is based on LtCol James Vance's experience with Public Sector Public Relations, much of this information is equally applicable to all organizations.

The Partners in Emergency Preparedness Conference     (a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization) is the largest and most successful regional emergency preparedness conference in the Pacific Northwest. Partners in Emergency Preparedness annually hosts nearly 700 people representing business, schools, government, the nonprofit sector, emergency management professionals, and volunteer organizations.
