Progress Report
Vashon COVID Relief Fund

Goal: $425,000  Raised so far: $247,000 (58%)  Total donors: 300+

NOTE: Three major donors contributed seed funding of $163,000. Two wish to be anonymous.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the Beardsley family members who donated $13,000 of the total.

NOTE: This report does not take into account $10,000 that was in VashonBePrepared accounts
prior to activation for COVID-19. Most of that amount was expended on operational costs
directly connected to our emergency response.

Food and Shelter

Since mid-April, we have distributed around $25,000 every two weeks to our social service and economic recovery partners. So far, those disbursements have paid for:

  • 10,000 meals from the Vashon Senior Center lunch program, the IFCH evening meal program, and the Vashon School District nutrition program.
  • 1,000 bags of groceries from the Vashon Food Bank.
  • Support for 200 cases of family household relief to Interfaith Council to Prevent Homelessness (IFCH), Vashon Youth and Family Services (VYFS), DOVE Project and St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Sixteen business reopening workshops and back to business toolkits produced by Vashon Chamber of Commerce.
NOTE: A large percentage of these groceries and meals are delivered to homes and neighborhoods. For example, the School District delivered many of its meals throughout the island via bus routes, making food available to all families, not only students.

Health

We have set aside $50,000 for the Vashon Medical Reserve Corps testing project at the Open Space to ensure testing will be able to meet the demand, which we expect to continue for some months.

Our communications expenditures are largely aimed at improving health through education and counseling. For example, there are ongoing expenses for the series of community Town Halls. A postcard mailing will inform the public about our new Community Care Team Help Line. The Community Resources Hub at Village Green consumed about $1,200 weekly while it was running for three weeks.
