Gold Beach NERO

Gold Beach Neighbors come together in emergencies and look out for one another. Neighbors have prepared for emergencies based on the concept of Neighborhood Emergency Response Organizations (NEROs), which are informal groupings of neighbors who will assist each other in an organized manner if a disaster, such as an earthquake or devastating storm, should occur.

Upper and Lower Gold Beach have each been divided into groups of 7-16 households, and 2-3 neighbors in each group have agreed to take the lead in checking on all of the households in the group in person after a disaster, and to survey the neighborhood for injuries, fires, damaged buildings and roads, downed power lines, etc. Situations that are immediately dangerous to life and health should be reported immediately to 911. NERO coordinators from each group of households then report the results of their survey of their immediate area to the neighborhood captains for Upper and Lower Gold Beach, who are stationed at designated assembly points. The neighborhood captains compile the information and report it to the nearest functioning fire station - or the Vashon Emergency Operations Center (EOC) at VIFR Station 55 on Bank Road.

The NERO report is then relayed to the Vashon Emergency Operation Center (EOC) for appropriate action.

Resources on this page include the NERO group maps, and a map showing the location of the emergency assembly locations for Upper and Lower Gold Beach. Also included is brief communications plan for use during an emergency, and a brief “cheat sheet” with recommendations for what to do in an emergency.

To receive information from the Gold Beach board during emergencies (and for general messages), you can request to be added to the info@goldbeachcommunityclub.org mailing list. Use the Contact form on the Gold Beach home page to request that you be added to the list.

More information on the NERO concept, as well as extensive resources for preparing your household for an emergency can be found at http://www.vashonbeprepared.org.

In emergencies, the Gold Beach clubhouse is opened as a place of refuge.
