Vashon CERT Training Opportunities

Vashon CERT offers training that prepares members for participation in the CERT organization and for partnering with other Vashon emergency response organizations.  With the added benefit that many CERT skills can be applied to everyday situations.

CERT Basic Course

Our free CERT Basic Course is your gateway into the team for those members of the public interested in becoming a part of CERT. The course includes:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Fire Safety and Suppression
  • Disaster Medical Operations and Psychology
  • Light Search and Rescue Techniques
  • And More

Vashon CERT membership includes a two-year commitment to quarterly training and exercises designed to keep your skills sharp. Ideal candidates should be physically active and able to perform mission activities such as those listed above.

The Basic Course is usually offered every one to two years. If interested, please let us know and we will reach out to let you know the next time the course is offered.

Core Supplementary Training (Required)

Once new members complete the Basic Course, we have five Core Supplementary Trainings that are required to continue your journey of being part of the CERT team. These are a mix of one session classroom trainings and online FEMA trainings that expand upon the basic knowledge set.

Extracurricular Training

Finally, we provide ongoing opportunities to expand your skill set as well as practice your knowledge with training beyond the regular curriculum. These are offered several times a year and include the chance for the CERT team members to get out in the field to get hands-on practice with the skills learned.
