Proclamation_Seattle_2016_Emergency_Preparedness_MonthIn an effort to prepare Seattle communities for ‘The Big One’ and other disasters Seattle may face, Mayor Murray has proclaimed October 2016 as Emergency Preparedness Month.

Please join the Office of Emergency Management in encouraging Seattle residents, businesses and organizations to be  prepared to be on their own for 7-10 days following a major disaster.

Here’s how you can help:

· Follow us on Facebook and Twitter to receive daily emergency preparedness tips. Help us spread the word by retweeting and sharing our posts.

· Drop, Cover and Hold during the annual Great Washington ShakeOut event at 10:20 a.m. on October 20. Encourage your office staff to do the same.

· Put on your ‘brave hat’ and take a ride in the ‘Big Shaker’ at Westlake Park on October 11 to experience the shaking of a simulated 8.0 earthquake. More details to follow.

· Attend a free Disaster Skills Workshop to gain knowledge on fire extinguisher use, utility control, water purification, disaster basic aid, and more. Visit the ‘Upcoming Events Calendar’ on the OEM website to register - invite your family, friends and co-workers to attend.

· Sign-up for AlertSeattle at alert.seattle.gov to stay informed of emergencies.

· View our new preparedness infographic and visit OEM’s website to get yourself and your family prepared. Share the infographic with office staff.
